ROKU Smart Home & Automation Control Broken

MacGyver

If you own Roku media player and use an App or smart home control system, or may be custom installed universal remote control, which you have been using to control your Roku... then you may have noticed that all of the sudden recently your custom controls have stopped working.

Now the easy workaround of course is to grab your Roku factory remote, and it will work just fine! But why?

The recent automatic update to some Roku players has reverted a few settings to their default state or OFF in some cases. This is probably some lawyers idea, but either way it's annoying, but easy to fix!

Additional options were added to the Roku menu - to fix your ECP network control see:

  • Settings > System > Advanced system settings > Control by mobile apps > Network access

This setting may now be set to Disable or Limited by default. To restore your network remote control set this back to Enabled.
